North Myrtle Beach, SC June 19, 2009--The 4th annual ‘Paws Across the Water Duck Race’ will be held at Barefoot Landing Saturday, September 6th, 2008. Over ten thousand yellow rubber ducks will be dropped into the Intracoastal Waterway at Barefoot Landing in a race to benefit the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.

New this year is a Business Duck Race that will take place before the main event.  The entry fee for the Business Race is $150.00 and only 150 entrants will be accepted. “Top Duck in Town” Award, trophy and plaque will be given to the business that has the fastest duck.  A “Peoples Choice” award, trophy and plaque will also be given to the business that has the best decorated or designed duck.  The public will have an opportunity to vote on Race Day from the finalists picked by the Duck Race Committee.

Business participation in this event will increase event attendance, which in turn will increase the revenue and increase awareness of our shelter animals. Proceeds from the day’s event will help to build a much-needed new facility that will house the more than 2,500 animals brought to the shelter annually.

In the Non-Business event, Duck Adoptions are now available and will be on sale throughout the summer at various locations around the Grand Strand, including the shops at Barefoot Landing, the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and online at the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society. Individual and corporate adoptions are available.

Adoption fees:
$5 for one Duck
$25 for a Quack Pack (5)
$50 for a Flock of Ducks (12)
$400 for a Big Duck (100)

The race will be at Barefoot Landing on September 8th. Grand Prize is $5,000 Gas Card, courtesy of Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson.  Other prizes include a sports package and dinner show package.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy an entire day of great food.
